Windsurf Review
An agent-native IDE from the Codeium team — planning and editing feel like one loop.
Rating: 4.4/5
Windsurf is the most opinionated take on "the IDE is the agent". Cascade-style flows plan a change, apply it across files, and let you steer — the loop feels tighter than gluing an agent on top of an existing editor. Downside: you’re trading the enormous VS Code/JetBrains extension ecosystems for a purpose-built app. Try the free tier on a real task before committing.
Pros
- The plan → edit → verify loop feels first-class, not bolted on
- Strong free tier lets you evaluate on real work
- Solid inline completion in addition to the agent
Cons
- Smaller ecosystem of extensions than VS Code or JetBrains proper
- Best experiences require staying in Windsurf’s UI rather than another editor
